Making Waves: A Freeform Quilt Piecing Method

$5.99

Inspired by a block of the month club, I began art quilting with a similar method in 2021. Since then, I have developed my own process for creating unique art quilts using this freeform wave piecing method.

After these years of trial and error, I was finally confident to share my skills by teaching. I wanted something my students could refer back to after class so I began writing this manual to describe my method for freeform wave piecing. This manual includes a table of contents for easy reference, a complete supply list, tons of high quality pictures, detailed and easy to read instructions, helpful tips and tricks, and the input of my past and current students (who made the creation of this manual possible).

Unlike traditional quilt piecing made with precision cuts and straight lines, or the laborious cutting, pinning, and sewing for curved piecing, Making Waves is a unique method of quilt piecing that utilizes fabric manipulation to create the illusion of motion. It uses simple, thin, fabric strips and turns them into oceans, rivers, landscapes, fields, valleys, flowers, and even galaxies.

There is no chain piecing or short cuts when using this method but with patience and practice, the only limitation is your imagination. This manual is just the start to making beautiful pieces, small and large. I hope you move beyond what I have included here to create you own style and continue the tradition of art quilting with your own innovations, style, and spin.
