Another Project Started and a Wonderful Class
A look inside my newest project and the work of my students.

Now that I've finished "Inferno Sky," had a chance to tidy the house, and cleaned up my sewing studio, I started working on another large art quilt. Come back often to watch the progress!
For my new project, I wanted to keep the background simple, like I did for "Tulip." The background for "Tulip" only used two different fabrics. They were both light blue and looked a little bit like denim. This time, I'm using four different darker blue fabrics. One is the absolutely stunning Lapis Lazuli Handloom woven fabric by Windham Fabrics. The color is perfect for this piece and the texture adds the perfect touch!
I enjoy challenging myself and recreating a background with just a few simple fabrics is a great one. I have to think more about fabric placement. Also emphasizing the piecing method so that the movement of the waves are still visible despite the lack of fabric variation.
Speaking of challenging myself... I am quickly coming up on my one year anniversary as a quilting teacher! I have learned so much from my students these past 10 months. Without them and their insight and questions, I wouldn't have the finished manual I use now for all my classes.
I was teaching again this week, another beginner class. Being summer, my classes have been smaller as people have been on vacation, but this week I had three lovely ladies! They did a great job working through the process to come up with some beautiful pieced placemat tops. Pics posted with permission.
